JANET DEMARIA

"Hi there! I'm Janet DeMaria, inventor of the Skadoosie garment for babies. It all started years ago, when I was a new mom dealing with the challenges of countless diaper changes! That's when I realized how outdated traditional onesies were. These challenges led me to create the Skadoosie, designed specifically for newborns up to six months old.
My background in fashion merchandising and interior design gave me the skills to reimagine the onesie for modern parents. Inspired by a little girl named Alice, one of the first babies to wear my prototype, I named my creation "Skadoosie," a blend of "skedaddle" and "onesie." The name reflects the ease and convenience of the garment, which uses baby-soft Velcro instead of snaps, making it simple for anyone to use.

"Before my entrepreneurial journey, I had a vibrant career in the fashion industry. As a teenager, I worked as a model, which instilled in me a deep appreciation for fashion and design.
Modeling taught me the importance of style, detail, and presentation, but I soon realized that my true passion lay in the inner workings of the fashion world. I pursued fashion merchandising and gained valuable experience working at a department store in New York, where I learned the significance of networking and industry connections.
My background in fashion and interior design gave me the skills to reimagine the onesie for modern parents. During my early career, I worked as a designer at some big companies (including La-Z-Boy), but I left to focus on raising my son.

As you browse this website, you may notice that the fight against mesothelioma is close to my heart. My late husband was diagnosed with this aggressive cancer due to asbestos exposure. To honor his memory, 10% of Skadoosie profits go toward mesothelioma research. My goal is to raise awareness and contribute to finding a cure."
